We all know it can be stressful dealing with a slow draining sink or tub or main sewer line back-up, especially if it’s the first time you have experienced it in your home. Your first thought is maybe trying a DIY remedy. When that doesn’t work or only works for a short period and the clog returns, you go online to find a drain cleaning company. What you may not know is that some companies with the best ‘deal’ in town advertise these seemingly more affordable prices because the service they are offering is simply for drain clearing, not drain cleaning. Clearing and cleaning are not the same and it’s important to know the difference. We want you to know exactly what you are paying for so you can make the right decision for your drain service.

Drain Clearing

Most plumbers will provide drain clearing services. Drain clearing is when the clog is dislodged, broken up or a hole is poked through the blockage, but not fully removed. A plumbing snake is a heavy-duty cable powered by a motor that rotates the correct size blade fastened at the end of the cable. The snake is fed into the affected pipe while spinning and breaking up blockages in its path down the drain line. Once the clog is broken apart by the snake, water flow is restored to your plumbing, yet the clog particles may remain in your piping. This could pose potential issues later on, as the material that originally caused the clog is still there and could reform with new debris. Drain clearing is effective, especially in removing hair, roots, or other materials that the blade catches and pulls out, but it is not the same as drain cleaning.

If you live in an older or historic home or have a business in an older/historic building with original or older plumbing, your drain piping may be fragile and more susceptible to damage, so we would recommend this least invasive drain snaking method.

Some of the companies that promote big discounts and less than $100 an hour drain clearing do it to get in your door – they use a snake to clear a clog and then sell you an enzyme cleaner and try to upsell you with an additional water jet drain cleaning service. You shouldn’t need both services at the same time. Water-jet cleaning is more effective and can be done as a sole service, but it typically is the more expensive option. However, water-jetting will save you money over time.

Drain Cleaning

Drain cleaning fully flushes out your pipes with water. Hydro water-jetting is efficient, economical and environmentally safe. A special nozzle with forward and reverse jets is mounted on the end of a heavy-duty hose. Varying amounts of highly pressurized water blast the entire circumference of the pipe and the entire length of the drain line. This cleaning will last longer than traditional drain clearing and will extend the lifespan of your plumbing system.

If your drains have been snaked over and over again and are still slow draining or are clogged, it’s time to see if hydro water-jetting is a good option for you. Build-up from years of partially cleared clogs still lurk in your plumbing and water-jetting will clean your pipes of this built up rust, sludge, scale, grease, grime, dirt, hair, foreign objects, and leave your pipes squeaky clean. Water jetting can even rid your main sewer line of those intrusive tree roots. A camera inspection will determine if your main line is a candidate for water-jetting, because if your drain is compromised or broken in any place, water-jetting may further damage your pipe.

Hydro jetting is the most effective way to dislodge clogs and flush debris all the way out of your home, while simultaneously preventing a blocked drain from occurring in the future. Whether your home or commercial sewer or floor drain line keeps backing-up or your kitchen sink is constantly plugged with food and grease, hydro jetting will blast your clog and clean your plumbing.
